A few months before I confronted with a patient who had a mind set of his inability to accept and work with single option in his life. He said that he used to get upset when a good number of options were not available to select one. His that utterance made me to understand underlying his rigidity for his pseudo stubborness and I coined a new term for his specific behavior, that is, RIGID FLEXIBILITY. In my earlier posts also I had written on a well desired ability of flexibility which is core to human adaptation with one's environment.
CHANGE characterizes human life but the irony is that most of us resist change and face adaptation issues in our lives. More ironic is that the difficult times we fear may ruin us, are the very ones that can break us open and help
us blossom into who we are meant to be. Plant life comes out when it comes out of a seed after breaking it. So many animal lives start after breaking the eggs. Human life also starts when a sperm penetrates an ovum to form an egg which further multiplies plenty times to transform into a complete human baby, fit to adapt to changes during different developmental phases.
RIGID FLEXIBILITY is a masked stubborness or a pseudo flexibility which tempts an individual to be stubborn for one's so called urge for options for acting out. It is very hazardous human behaviour which leads to maladjustment and stressful situations for oneself and for all others around him/her without one's awareness about it. The person may have falsified feeling of proud for oneself in want of many options. I never say looking for options are wrong but feeling upset and handicapped in the absence of options is an undesirable aspect of human behavior. We shall look and analyze our own behaviors which characterize RIGID FLEXIBILITY and if we feel so, then must effort to get rid of such pseudo flexibility and to transform into genuine flexibility.
So TRAIN YOUR MIND to remain in positive orientation of genuine flexibility.
Enjoy days always ahead in true love for genuine flexibility.
